Ethel W Nuwamanya, MSc, MA
Licensed Clinical Psychologist & University Lecturer
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and University Lecturer with over 15 years of experience in the field of mental health. Having earned my Master’s degrees in Clinical Psychology and Clinical Mental Health Counseling in the United States, I bring a globally-informed, regulated, and evidence-based approach to my practice in Uganda. My background includes specialized work in trauma, crisis counseling with TASO, and neuropsychological research.
I believe that self-awareness is the foundation of change. In my practice at AveLat Connections Wellness, I provide a structured and empathetic environment where individuals and couples can process their difficulties, understand their patterns, and build healthier coping systems. My approach is clinical and focused, modeled after high-standard regulated practices, ensuring that your care is both competent and aligned with your unique needs.
Beyond the clinic, I am a mother, a wife, and an educator. I am deeply passionate about building happy, fulfilling marriages and helping individuals find their purpose. Whether you are navigating anxiety, healing from trauma, or seeking to strengthen your relationship, my goal is to walk this journey with you toward stability, teamwork, and well-being.

Therapeutic Philosophy
At AveLat Connections Wellness, we believe that every individual and couple has the capacity for growth, healing, and meaningful change. Difficult experiences can affect how people understand themselves, relate to others, and cope with everyday life—but these patterns can be explored and changed within a safe and respectful therapeutic relationship.
We view each client as a whole person whose experiences are shaped by relationships, family, culture, community, personal values, and life circumstances. Counseling is therefore not about judging, labelling, or imposing solutions. It is a collaborative process that supports self-awareness, emotional healing, personal responsibility, healthier coping, and more fulfilling relationships.
Our work is grounded in empathy, confidentiality, professional ethics, cultural sensitivity, and care that is responsive to each client’s individual needs.
A Collaborative Path Forward
Our therapeutic approach is collaborative, person-centred, trauma-informed, and goal-oriented. We begin by understanding the client’s concerns, experiences, strengths, relationships, and goals. Together, we identify patterns that may be contributing to distress and develop practical, healthier ways of coping and responding.
Sessions provide space for clients to process difficult experiences, develop greater self-understanding, strengthen emotional boundaries, and build skills for managing their mental health and relationships. The pace and focus of counseling are adapted to the client’s needs, readiness, cultural context, and presenting concerns.
In couples counseling, the work focuses on helping partners understand their individual and shared patterns, improve communication, take responsibility for their contributions to the relationship, and develop greater teamwork and emotional connection.
Where a client’s needs require additional or specialized care, appropriate referral or collaboration with other qualified professionals may be recommended.
Therapeutic Approaches
We integrate multiple evidence-based therapeutic modalities to provide comprehensive, personalized care tailored to your unique needs.
Person-Centred Therapy
Provides a respectful, empathic, and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship where clients can explore their experiences, develop self-awareness, and participate actively in their own growth.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Helps clients identify connections between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, and develop healthier and more effective ways of responding to distressing situations.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Supports clients in relating differently to difficult thoughts and emotions, clarifying their values, and taking meaningful action in the direction of the life they want to live.
Trauma-Informed Therapy
Recognizes the impact of trauma on emotional well-being, relationships, behaviour, and coping. This approach prioritizes safety, choice, collaboration, empowerment, and respect for each client's pace.
Nonviolent Communication (NVC)
Supports individuals and couples in expressing feelings and needs clearly, listening with empathy, reducing harmful communication patterns, and working toward more respectful and constructive interactions.
These approaches may be integrated according to each client’s needs, goals, cultural context, and readiness for change.
